The South Attleboro
White Hawks kicked off the 2010 campaign in 3 different locations, but made
their presence felt around the league.
In Lincoln, one of
the two 5th grade teams started off strong, but fell short to the Seekonk
Warriors in the end. Quarterback Shane Joubert looked strong, completing passes
to Drew Pagano and Nick Hood for big gains, while running backs Aidan McKenna,
Corey McKenna and Tyler Abraham all had solid gains on the ground. Defensively,
the big linemen Ty Scurry, Matt Jimenez and Ed Noel disrupted the Warriors
backfield, allowing Corey McKenna to intercept a ball and run it back 50 yards
and John Candiales to rackup the tackles.
In North Providence,
the 8th grade team battled strong against the New Bedford Whalers, but just ran
out of steam at the end. Nick Desmarais led the White Hawks out to a strong
start, with some crisp passing and the effective running of Michael Lee, who
scored on an 8 yard rumble after setting it up with a 45 yard run, and Evan
Sheehan, behind the blocking of Tim Christensen, James Potter, George Downing,
Jeff Toomey, Charlie Culhane and Jordan Scurry. Desmarais connected on the White
Hawks' first score to Jaston Robinson, with Scurry kicking the conversion
through the uprights.
Playing in Darlington
against the Braves, the rest of the White Hawks' teams were as formidable
opponents as you could ask for. The Flag team started out the day, running the
ball well, with great blocking up front. The offensive line came up big,
allowing Blake Garzaro to score once and Parker Sackett to tally up two
touchdowns of his own.
The next game
featured the White Hawks' Junior Mite Team. Bryant Ciccio, Jameson Allessandro,
Anthony Cascio and Josh Joubert started the day on defense and kept the Braves
pinned back in their own zone. The Junior Mites ran two seperate offenses
against the Braves, both with tremendous success. The Red Offense, with
quarterback David Albert taking snaps from James Moffet had huge gains by backs
Ciccio, Cameron McKenna and Zachary Green, while linemen Chris Gordon, Luke
Vallaincourt, Danny Marguerite and Devon Birch made holes for them to run
through. The White Offense was next, powered by the center/quarterback combo of
Dominic Ingemi snapping to Isa Siddiq. The offensive line of Caleb Murphy, Zane
Gariepy, Jack Handy, Brian DeFlaminio, Austin Proulx, Alec Eaton, Aaron Dumont
and Brian Moore held the Braves' defense at bay and Anthony Hoyt. Kendrick
Santos and John Connolly all had strong performances on the field.
Next came the White
Hawks' 4th and 5th grade Black team who got off to a great start against
Darlington. In the first quarter, the White Hawks defense held the Braves to
just 7 yards and the Whie Hawks' offense capped off an 8 play, 42 yard drive
with a 5 yards touchdown run by Trevor Koppy on the first play of the second
quarter. Unfortunately, the lead was short lived as the injury bug bit the White
Hawks hard im the 2nd quarter. Koppy finished the game with 31 yards, while
Justin cote had 49 of his own. Quarterback Billy Reynolds, behind the blocking
of Desmond Woodson, Jonathan Leon and Kyle Walsh moved the ball effectively
connecting twice to Walsh for 32 yards. Defensively, the White Hawks were
anchored by Eddie Porreca who had 6 tackles and 3 assists.. Woodson, Walsh and
Matt corrado all contributed with 4 tackles and cote and Koppy added 2 each to
the total, but it just was not
enough to stem the tide.
The 6th grade team
followed and, while the final score was 19-6, the White Hawks carried the play
most of the day. Offensive linemen, Chris Coutoulakis, Sam Haven, Zach Sousa and
Will McPherson came up big, pushing the Darlington defense around the field and
leading the way to 160 rushing yards. Touchdown runs by Sam Corrado (3 yards)
and Jacob Vieira (a HUGE 55 yarder!), and a 35 yard touchdown completion from
Steve Hamerski to Corrado provided the offense, with Tyler McGovern passing to
Josh Gravel for a conversion on one of the scores. Not to be outdone, the White
Hawks' defense was immense, with Jason Mota racking up 12 solo tackles, 8 in the
backfield and Ryan Neuendorf, Ethan Hardy and McGovern all making touchdown
saving tackles at various times, limiting the Braves to one score for the day.
